Description

The striking Soviet design of the 1930s became a source of inspiration for modernists around the world, including in the Netherlands. The circle around Theo van Doesburg and De Stijl was very interested in Russian avant-garde art, both in terms of design and ideology. Gerrit Rietveld was a graphic designer and typographer for the magazine Nieuw Rusland, founded in 1928 as the organ of the Netherlands-New Russia Society. Filmmaker Joris Ivens followed developments in Russian cinema for this magazine.
